1. Digital hand weaving process: The works in this collection are woven by hand on a digital TC2 Thread controller loom. The process requires designs to be uploaded into digital software, then translated into the binary language of weaving before being fed into the loom. The process of weaving is by hand while the loom reads the prepared files line by line as the weaver builds the cloth from the bottom up. Working back and forth between ancient haptic and contemporary digital methods as a way to honor time, loss, memory, the ephemeral, and futuristic possibilities – these ‘woven paintings’ serve as a source of momentary cartographic data and prayer flags simultaneously.
