Digital Weaving Process
The design process for these works mine aerial drone footage and architectural surface rubbings, capturing image stills of place, then transforming them digitally using mathematical strategies found in ancient architectural and textile pattern formation. The designs are then translated into the binary language of weaving and fed into the digital TC2 thread controller loom, then handwoven. Working back and forth between ancient haptic and contemporary digital methods as a way to honor time, loss, memory, the ephemeral, and futuristic possibilities – these ‘woven paintings’ serve as a source of momentary cartographic data and prayer flags simultaneously.
